Asian Paints Presents The Vibrant Mahim Art District

Mahim East in Mumbai houses one of the largest working-class populations globally and is also home to Dharavi, one of the most buzzing cultural hotspots known for its entrepreneurial spirit and hidden talent.

Yet, for years, its negative image as a 'slum' preceded it, acting as a deterrent for tourists and locals to venture into the neighbourhood.

In 2017, Asian Paints and St+Art began transforming parts of it with the help of artists coming from different national and international backgrounds. Today, the district has over 15 murals. St+art and Asian Paints' work in Mahim has encouraged the metropolitan’s residents, who generally might not venture into Shahu Nagar and Mahim (E), to discover its cultural milieu and get a chance to engage with its people, its rich urban socio-economic landscape and the values that make it the heart of Mumbai. As an incubator of creative connections, this free and always open gallery has realised moments of togetherness through participatory workshops and community engagement activities.
