The National War Memorial, situated in New Delhi, is a tribute to honour the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for Independent India and displayed distinguished acts of valour during wartime. Unveiled in its present form on 25th February, 2019, the Memorial has four concentric circles and a central obelisk, under which burns an 'eternal flame' representing the immortal soldiers (Amar Jawan). The concentric circles are designed as a 'Chakravyuh', an ancient Indian war formation and are called as: Amar Chakra (Circle of Immortality), Veerta Chakra (Circle of Bravery), Tyag Chakra (Circle of Sacrifice) and Rakshak Chakra (Circle of Protection).
